Weekly Nugget: My Manifesto On What Really Matters | What’s Yours? 

Hi friend, 

Sometimes, in your work, you need to pause, step back, and ask yourself — for the sake of what you are doing this work. Who are you doing this for? What really matters? And what is your commitment to the world?

At Conceivian, a moment like this came a couple of weeks ago.

It’s not like we didn't know WHAT to do. We were “doing” lots of things. We were hitting our goals and executing tasks — the everyday humdrum.

But we had forgotten for the sake of what we were doing all of this. It was causing our team an underlying feeling of overwhelm, anxiety, frustration, and some fogginess.

So, we took a moment to reflect and rearticulate what we are up to, and for the sake of what and why, we as a team are uniquely positioned to do this work.

This resulted in a number of important conversations about the breakdowns and possibilities among the founding team, our customers, and our allies.

All this resulted in a manifesto that we signed and published today. You are most welcome to listen to or read it here.  

Now, this may seem a frivolous or trivial task to some, but when you feel stuck about work, and the future feels unclear, having a manifesto could be your saving grace.

A manifesto is your map for the entrepreneurial journey you will take to bring your community from the present state to a future state. A well-written manifesto is an illocutionary logic that opens a path to a new reality. It articulates the big breakdowns you are solving, who you are solving them for, and what your offer is that opens new futures.

So if you are working on something but there is a nagging feeling that none of it is going to work or really make a difference (in other words, you feel an underlying resignation), confront this resignation, stare at it, and investigate what it's all about. Your frustration, lack of clarity, or resignation may signal that you might be on to a big opportunity. Writing your manifesto is a great way to explore all this.
